    My first antler pen

A few months ago, Breezy told me that he would give me some whitetail sheds if I wanted to try them out on some pens. Well, one day when he and his lovely bride were visiting his brother in Spring, they stoped by and dropped of the sheds ... a whole darn box of them ... not that I'm complaining!

Today I decided to try my hand at spinning some bone.
I would have made the barrell a little smaller, but when I got to this point, there was that small patch of texture that looked cool, so I stopped.

Polished up, the antler feels almost like glass or plastic.

Breezy, thanks for the box of bones ... if you like this one, send me your address and it's yours.

Nice work Kevin.......how hard is the antler to work with as opposed to wood on the lathe?

Will, it's not as difficult as I thought it would be. I stopped to sharpen my gouge at least twice during the process and just took it slow. It comes out nice and smooth, but I can see where it would blow up if you got in a hurry. Jeff had given me some pointers before I started ... and it went well.

Doc, it doesn't really smell bad to me. I grind on skull caps all the time so I might be a little used to the smell but to me, cutting the antler with my chop saw smelt worse than when I was turning it on the lathe.

BTW, this was made from one G2.

Breezy, it'll be on its way tomorrow.
