Vanguards are made for Weatherby by Howa, so you can save a few $$ by just buying a Howa 1500. The only difference except for the stock is the engraving on the floorplate as far as I can tell.
I have one of the Howas in 25.06 with a VXIII 4.5x14 fine duplex and it is sub-moa with cheap Rem core-loks. Great Yote and P-dog gun.Last edited by muzzlebrake; 10-04-2009, 09:17 AM.

I've heard a lot of good things about the Vanguards and the Howas. They seem to be a little heavy for a rifle that I would be lugging any distance especially in mountains.
As far as the 300 WBY, it is a great cartridge. I have a Sako L691 in 300 WBY and it will put down animals out there. Longest shot I have ever made with it was 297 yards and the WT went down in it's tracks. I know that isn't a "long" shot but I have my rifle sighted in two inches high at 100 yards and I only held over about four inches at 297.
That rifle is more accurate than I am, but I usually can put three shots inside 3/4" at 100 yards even if I haven't been shooting regularly.

I purchased a 300 WSM last year in Weatherby Vanguard Sub MOA with the stainless barrel and that is the best out of the box rifle I have ever owned. It came with a factory test shot target at 100 yds. and a bonded three shot group. I dressed it oul with a Leupold 4-12 vari-x ll scope. When I shot it my self I was amazed of how accurate it was with a three shot group under 1/2'' @ 100 yds and just under 1.5'' @ 200. The only beef I had with this rifle was the trigger. It had a bad creep. But 180 dollars later and a new trigger set at 3 pounds It is perfect.
