    Over near Jacksonville/Cushing:
    2-3 years ago I had a 6pt cut loose with a "snort-wheez" as a forkhorn was approaching.
They were all bristled up and then decided to push each other around a little.

    In the Midwest:
I've tried it on several occassions and generally will give it a shot during the rut if I think a buck is going to get past or is going out and away, just an attempt to get him to turn my way (not quite as loud as cracking antlers together would be, but generally is louder than my grunt call).

I also tend to use it more if I have a buck decoy set out.
There are times a buck may not see your decoy, but adding this challenge sound will cause him to look in the general direction you are... within 20 yards of your buck decoy.

It has worked for me twice. Both times it turned the deer and brought them in. But it was in the middle of the rut.
