    Ragweed question? Stay or go?

    Hey all,

This last Feb I had a D5 dozer clear some brush, put in a couple of trails.... Well, My place has been taken over with what I think is ragweed. I have read that Deer like ragweed but I am not sure?

In my front pasture it's kind of tall, see pic with my son that is 6'3". In my back pasture it's not but about 14 inches tall.

    First, is this ragweed?

Should I spray to kill? Let it stay? Mow? Combination???

Please help an agriculturely challenged hunter!

This weed looks like silver leafed nightshade and it is a scourge to your place. Spray it with a residual broadleaf herbicide like Grazon P+D and you might have to spray it again. It has a small "carrot for aroot and the root is tough to kill. You see it only appeared in your newly disturbed ground. It will compete heavily with anything you plant there, but will burn back with a good freeze. The roots will be there for next year if you don't kill it.

Kinda looks like Croton to me, (Dove weed) I wouldn't worry about it unless it affects your shooting.

It could be a Croton or "dove weed or goat weed". Its hard to tell in the picture. Can you get a close up of 1 plant?

Disc and mow lanes through it and make it a dove field!

just shred it closer to the opener. then there will be new growth that the deer can get to. Almost like corning a road, especially if you throw some oats or something like that out there!

Goat weed. We have it all over our place in Madison County. That stuff tears my sinuses up something fierce!! I come home looking drunk after spending a day on our land this time of year. Burn it to hell!!!

Spray and kill it before it takes over everything as it will compete with your food plot you need to put in that area.

looks like silver leaf nightshade, good for nothing. Spray works best.
