    Consequences- Tough Break

Well, a couple years ago I got into a little bit of trouble with the law. I had a few beers then decided that it would be ok for me to go grab something to eat and come back home. On my way home I got pulled over and taken to jail for a DUI. I was very lucky that they didn't nail me for a DWI. Anyhow, I stayed in jail over night, had to pay a 250 dollar fine, had to complete 20 hours of community service, and I had to attend an Alcohol Awareness class. Today (almost two years later) I get a call from the power plant in Glen Rose. The lady said she had received my resume and asked me if I would be interested in working the outage coming up in Oct. I was sooooo excited. She told me the pay would start at 15.40 and hour and they'd pay me 75 dollars a day for per dim. This was literally the break I had been waiting for! She told me we'd have to do an over the phone interview for now (since I am in Cali) so we did. She asked me all sorts of questions and I answered them. When it came to my background check, we discussed my history and she told me that everything would be fine and that I would be good to go! After I hung up the phone I called my dad, my mom, my gf, and everyone that I could think of to tell them the awesome news!!! Shortly after hanging the phone up from telling my mom that her son is coming back home to Texas, my phone rang again. It was the lady that had just hired me and gave me the start date of September 20th at 6am. She was very soft spoken when she said “Tyler, i'm sorry but we're not going to be able to hire you”. My excitement died right then and there. Turns out that since I was court appointed to take the Alcohol Awareness class I have to wait two years after its completed to be eligible for hiring. When we first discussed it she told me you only have to wait a year, and when she tried to turn in my paperwork they told here that it has recently changed to two years. So, now here I am, back in the same boat all because of my stupidity two years ago. And the worst part is that I still have to call my mom and tell her that I'm not coming home after all. Anyhow, I just felt like venting a little. sorry to bore yall... lol

That sucks. Companies are getting very strict on background checks these days. Hang in there, something else will come up.

hey man... here is my story... DWI almost four years ago, I was a laborer for the company I am with now.... Fast forward to the present, I am happily married, two wonderful children, and I have moved up in the same company to a journeyman carpenter... My point being everything in this world the good lord throws at us for a reason... had I not had my stupid mistake (19 years old) I would have no of the wonderful things I have now! keep your head up brother everything works out in the end.... He has a plan for you believe me!!

You are young, and it is a lesson learned. It will all come back around. Good things come to good people..Even those who have made bad decisions in the past...

Thanks for sharing that experience. Perhaps it will get someone's attention and keep them from doing something similar. Sounds like you have a good head on your shoulders and have been able to keep it all in perspective. I wish you the best of luck and hope you get another chance to return to the great state of Texas.

Sorry to hear about the job.

Think of it as a lesson learned (as you obviously have) and be thankful that you didn't hurt anyone else in the process of making that mistake.
