Whew! Bow season opening day in Unit 36 New Mexico is just three weeks away and I had a huge scare!
As many know, I had rotator cuff surgery on my right shoulder April 28 and I knew from talking to the doctor and the therapists that making bow season Sept. 1 this year was going to be "iffy". After gathering all the info I could, I set a goal of beginning practicing August 1. My therapist knew this and even developed an excersise for me simulating drawing a bow.....and I really focused on this excercise, along with the others.
The big day arrived and I took my Switchback out of the case and prepared to fling a few arrows and get back into my practice routine. I knew with the first attempt that there was trouble. After really straining on several attempts, I finally got it to a full draw, then let it off (gently). I tried several more times and couldn't do it. I was horrified. My Switchback has a 60 lb. draw weight so I went and got my PSE Bruin, set at 50 lb. Didn't have any trouble drawing it.....so I had my Switchback adjusted down to 50 lb. and the pic below is of the first three arrows I shot.
I've since tweaked it back up to 55 lb. and it is good for now. I'm wondering what I have lost in bow performance with this 5 lb. drop in draw weight. Anybody?
