    Looking to make the step

Whats up folks. Been wanting to buy a bow for about a year so I can hunt the public lands for hogs. I am in the austin area. Been told to shoot as many as possiable. There are only two shops around here so they ony carry a few. Any how what pointers you have for a new guy. I dont even know enough about bows to come up with questions.

Go see Paul at Double G. in Georgetown. He will let you shoot each bow and carries a wide range of bows. I shoot a Bowtech General and love the bow. I shot several bows before deciding on this one. I was shooting a Mathews before I bought the Bowtech. All the manufactures have very good bows and it basically comes down to what is comfortable for you and what you are willing to spend. Hope this helps.

    Welcome to TBH

Paul at Double G is good. The folks at Archery Country are as well. Remember that buying a bow is like buying a golf club. It is what suits you best and has the best feel. The bows at these 2 shops will get the job done for you.

If your funds allow, buy the best quality products. This is not a cheap sport and you do not want to have to repurchase accesories or even a bow that does not suit your needs.

Have fun and accept the addiction!!

Go hang around either of the above mentioned shops and do a lot of listening. Shoot all the bows and let the bow pick you.

Just my $.02. Start off with a used bow from a pawn shop or look around in classified ads here. As far as a starter bow it needs to fit your draw length. Hate to see you invest $800 that doesn't pan out.
No1 was lucky to buy Bear Bow new when K-Mart discontinued archery. ( long time ago) 65# with correct draw length, 31 1/2" for me. Paid $45.
Was about to totally hang it up until I ran into Mister Bubba's Bullet Man and went on bow hunt with him. Then he recomended TBH to me. Finally got my first deer bow kill last October. Started getting serious about bowhunting. Now I've invested about $1000 in new Hoyt bow and accessories. All cash.
After getting the bow, hunting takes on a whole new set of challenges. Being able to be there within 30 yards isn't like looking through scope to reach out and touch one.
            Good luck Jr.
Your in the right place for sure.

Just buy a Mathews and be done with it.... You'll eventually get one and by then will have spent way more money on other bows that you won't be happy with

Is Mathews paying you like they pay the pros?

Don't forget about KC's Outdoors in Spicewood. the owner and his wife are very helpful when setting up a newbie to the bow world.

Paul is also very helpful and a class act.

If you go to Archery Country as for Mike Luckie he is a member of the site......

All three shops can help you out. Don't worry about which brand to buy, try them all and buy the one that feels the best in your hands..........

                    Hogkiller,

We could hunt the rest of our lives and not see another one like we saw 15 minutes into that first hunt. I dreamed about that buck two weeks ago the night after shooting in some new arrows. Why, I don't know but I guess that's why we hunt.

                    Dirtymike,

KC's is a good place to go and Double G is good too. Archery Country is centrally located.

Half the pawnshops in Austin have bows in them but you need to know what to look for because most are damaged, wornout or old technology. The good thing is you can return them if neccessary if one of the bowshop's check it out and it's junk.

Welcome to the club now go shoot some!

More than I expected to spend but hey. You only live once right. Then I need arrows, target, release...... You guys arnt kidding this is an expensive habit.

Dirtymike...just about six months ago I was in the same boat you are in now. I found a good used bowtech that was somewhat already decked out for a great price. I am hooked as well.

Not even really excited about breaking out the boom stick and will probably not use it much. I am dedicated to getting one within bow range.

                            2 options,
                            1) buy used, see if you like it
                            2) buy the best of everything and you'll feel obliged to see it through!
It may take a couple of years to make your first kill, so don't be put off if it takes a while... stick with it and it will be the most rewarding sport you've ever tried!

Been to Archery country and they are real nice foks.
