A little hard to do in this state. It is high on my list to get one in velvet though. On another note had a buddy that shot a buck, a couple of years ago, that had bailing twine rapped in its horns. He thought he was shooting a monster (right at dark) turned out to be a 1 1/2 year old 6pt, talk about a let down.

Here is one I took a few years back. He had an empty sack so he never shed his velvet. We take one or two of these every couple years on our place in the hillcountry.

What you got there "hillcountryhunter" is called a Stag. As you pointed out, he had nothing in his sack. Most often times that happens because they get hung up on a fence or some other type accident to their stuff. They then can't produce enough testerone to ever shed the velvet. They never drop their antlers either so they have velvet year around and that's why they end up looking so crazy, especially around the bases because it continues to grow there.

'Course you prolly knew that but maybe someone else didn't.

                              Thanks txsteele.

Because we have so many of these stags i have been talking with a biologist on the issue and he believes it has something to do with the crushed granite soil of the llano county/enchanted rock region. Something to do with the minerals in the ground or lack there of. He has information from several ranches in the aera where this is happening on a consistent basis.
