    laundry detergent

Did not want to hi-jack Smart's thread but want to know about DIY laundry detergent? Is there a recipe or should I buy the real stuff. Better yet is it necessary at all if you use scent away spray?

First, IMHO it's impossible to be scent free, especially early in the season. I think instead of going the "no scent" route it's better to go natural cover scent. I just wash my clothes in the Kirkland detergent I use on everything else and keep my hunting clothes in a garbage sack with small broken/crushed limbs and leaves from the area I am hunting...If it's brush I will use the more pungent limbs like black brush and brazil brush...if I'm hunting where there is cedar that's quick and easy and a heavy scent...either way it's natural and non threatening and covers most everything else.

Cheer Free and Clear has been recommended on the site although I can't remember if it is free of the whiteners.

just use Arm & Hammer Baking soda.

Arm and Hammer make a scent and dye free detergent much like the Cheer product. Both work great and save alot of money over the specialty hunting products. I like the natural cedar cover scent but have found myself burying my clothes and boots in a tub of corn, the last couple of years. We buy our corn in bulk and I collect the dusty fines that settle in the bins. If hunting around a feeder, could you smell any better.

I agree with Spud. I believe some of the scent free spray that we but may be baking soda and water.

Tide, Cheer, All, etc make good scent free soaps.
Then spray down with scent-away or similar sprays and will use Doe-P as a cover scent.

I buy the scent-free liquid detergent from Cabelas and a bottle lasts me 2-3 years, so I don't worry about it.

I'm with Goldeneagle on this one. It's cheap and works great.

I`ve been hunting a lot of years and never put much stock in how I washed my clothes. Not saying it doesn`t have a up side, just I`ve never worried about that part of the hunting process.
