    Colt .22LR AR's

I saw academy had some Colt AR 22's for 599.99 in a 16" A2 platform with a contour government barrell. If you went out and replaced the bcg with a standard one and popped in an AR mag with 5.56 wouldnt you have a steal of an ar for around 700 bucks????

    What say you??

I have a hard time believing that Colt would build a dedicated .22 that could so easily be converted to 5.56.But who knows....maybe.

They are not made by Colt, they are made by Umarex/Walther...and the whole weapon is built around the 22. rimfire cartridge, I'll admit I have not held one in my hands yet but I really doubt that it can be made into a 5.56 x 45. weapon...

I have held both the S&W and Colt AR-22 and they are plastic lowers.

I dont think so, the colt is a forged weapon, here is a link to the tech data on the four 22 rimfires that Colt/umarex are making.

I looked at one last week at Academy and from what I saw, it could not be converted. I liked it, but it wasn't an AR per se.

If the rate of twist wouldnt be so bad it wouldnt be so bad of a 223 weapon. I guess that's how they're keeping people from upgrading them in to a cheap but nice weapon.

Just saw a gun show on the outdoor channel the other night talking about these. They were either S&W, or Colt...but they are built from the ground up as a .22 and they can NOT be converted into a .223/5.56

****as in, there is no kit to convert it and it wasnt made to be converted, however a gun smith could probably do something to it to convert it but that cost on top of the gun price....might as wel buy an ar15****

...I doubt an h-buffer would work with that set up. You know they did that to keep the ding-dongs from even thinking about turning it centerfire.

I'm not into rimfires on an ar platform but have to agree for that price I would not consider a conversion. When I first saw it, I immediatly saw a spectra on the end of the tube and went...hmmm.

                            it was $649...

I believe Academy sells the Colt Tactical Rimfire for under $600.
