    Question for the Braintrust!

I am considering getting a Bloodhound as a family pet and to trail downed game. Does anyone have any pros or cons for this breed? I have done quite a bit of research, but I am wanting first hand info. have 2 small children and one older child.

    Thanks
    Jeff

Only experience I have with them is when I pull up in this one cove on the lake there is one that barks at me non-stop till I leave. Don't know if that is the norm, but it's very loud and I bet the neighbors get tired of it. Just something to think about.

I've been around them some. Great personality on 'em, they'll love ya to death, but that being said they are still hounds and are notoriously hard to train. They think on their own and don't like to listen much.

I was just considering one myself after having to put our German Shepherd down after 11 years. After speaking with a breeder of bloodhounds for some time on the phone, Wife and I decided to go with a new lab. He is chocolate and great 6 weeks old. The lady said they are great with kids and she has even had one used with children with autism. She stated they are hard to train and have a mind of their own. She stated if they are lying on the porch and you want them off you might as well step over them. They are very lazy and laid back.
                Good luck on your decision.
