Bald spot on back of Deer on hunting shows

What is the bald spot on the back usually between the front shoulders that you see on deer on hunting shows? I have never seen this myself in the wild.

I always thought it was from going under fences. I have seen it a lot on tv also but never with my own eyes.

Thats the spot they put the tracking chip in so they can find the deer.

I have never noticed the spot.

You will see it a lot more in South Texas and Mexico than in the Hill Country and West Texas. Where you have predominantly barb wire fences, deer will mostly slide under the bottom strand and rub or scrape their withers.This often creates scarring or a big callous. Deer in sheep and goat country have to deal with net wire fences and will normally sail right over. Exceptions to the barb wire deal would be a big racked buck that doesn't want to negotiate the "slide" under. If net wire fences are old or in rugged country, deer will often have "slides" under those fences.

I have seen it on bucks and does. I hunt near a fenceline on my parents 102acres and the always go under the fence, never over

I've never seen it on a buck until it was hard-horned, so I always figured it was from when they were marking a tree limb and their rack was rubbing their back.
This rubbed spot is apparent on bucks from all over, and there's alot of bucks that don't cross many fences.

That's a vaccination shot scar. Or maybe a shaven spot where steroids are shot up into.

Guys I shot one 2 years ago that had it. I thought it was a fence issue as well but not now. I'll post a pic of mu mount whenI get home tues. He has 2 bare spots just above the shoulder blade points but straight over his spine the hair iks fiine and thick so that ruled out the fence thing otherwise it would have rubbed the middle but not the side of the backbone.
