    How high for Feeder

How high does your feeder need to be to keep the cows from knocking off the spinner? A pen is out of the question. Was thinking about a winch up feeder but don't want to spend big money.

It's been my experience that cows are just plain brutal on feeders. If they can't reach the spinner, they just knock the whole feeder over. One of our lease members has a winch up and one of the cows backed into one of the legs and bent the leg pretty good. I know you said no pen but that's the only solution I've found so far.......hopefully someone will have a solution that we can both use!!!

elhefe, I am not sure there is a correct answer to your question.... Like said before, they will just knock it over to get to it.... Best of luck with it, I have always put some type of fence around them when cows are present IE:Three strands of Barbed wire, but you said that was out of the question... I use the winch up type feeders, can give you pic's (or you can come out to Montgomery and give them a look) if you are handy with the welding machine...

BTW, I saw you posted that you were a youth minister... What church???

I work at the Conroe Church of Christ on Longmire, right next to the Elementary School. We just moved into our new building a year ago. I have been there since 2001.

I'd say 7' minimum. I get away with 6' "standard" (non-winch up) tripod feeders but I have some heavy duty varmint cages that even a cow's head hasn't been able to dent, YET.
Do you have any big oaks near by? You could go the winch-up style cheap(er) by utilizing a tree.
