I love the way the mechanics kept those 46's going. Flew many a mile on those things!

Too bad you can't get one to fly you from Kingwood to Eldorado every Thursday or Friday during deer season.

I'd be deaf, dumb, and numb by the time I got there!

                        yeah I know...
us Army grunts get all kinds of do-dads for our uniforms
this is what all good Army grunts aspire to attain
                        an Army Infantryman's credentials

Hawk I was 196th Light Infantry Brigade, attached to the 23rd Infantry Division "Americal" when I was in Nam. But when I came back to the world they stationed me in the 2nd Armored at Ft. Hood. MG Patton Jr. was our division CO at the time. The let him command his daddy's division
but it was stateside garrison duty and I hated that part of the service.
I would rather stay where the fight is.....

Capt, I went to high school with a guy from your old outfit down at Chu Lai.
He was 196th also. He was a radio man (sniper bait we called 'em.) from mid '68-'69. I'll bet you knew him, he was the guy in the green clothes!

Americal's division HQ was on the beach at ChuLai, but the HQ for the 196thLIB was out on LZ Center, in the middle of the QueSon valley.

About halfway through my tour they moved the 196th's HQ into the old 5th Marine HQ facilities in DaNang (when the 5th went home) - much better digs !!

and the bars in DaNang were always entertaining when we were in on stand-down......
