Rye grass is what we palnt in Louisiana for horses
I have always heard not to turn horses out on rye because of the fungus that can grow on rye is fatal to horses. I did a small rye with oats and wheat mixture
Whats a couple of acres? Horses and goats have upper and lower teeth, unlike cattle. They will eat grass to the roots, so talk to a county agent in your area and see what they recomend for your area. 1 horse alone can easily over graze 2+ acres on some varieties of rye grass. The shorter you keep it eat the better chance you have of worms and parisites.
Good Luck
