I got a new lease between Richland spring and Rochelle
it in McCulloch county. About 5 or 6 miles out of Richland springs the
rail road tracks cross hwy190 I take a little county road to the right
right after the tracks. Does any one hunt that area if so whats the deer like there. Thanks

Richland Springs

I am about 3 miles East of you. You will see plenty of deer, hogs and probably some turkeys. We have seen/shot some nice bucks but just like anywhere, you got to let the little ones walk. I would rate the area a little better than the "average" hill country area.

I know some people that hunt somewhere around richland springs (near some river) and they kill some monsters for the Hill country. Their place is low fenced and they kill 150's every year and last year killed a mid 160. They say that the quality of deer is not typical for the entire area, but you may be close to where they hunt.

We are a little farther west, just outside Rochelle. We have killed 130's regularlly for the past 3 years, with some 140's on trail cams. LOTS of corn buzzards. We see quite a few deer, we just have trouble getting them up in age as there is a lot of pressure around us.

we have a small 600 acre lease outside brady . lots of deer. just three of us hunt, sometimes four, first year we took 136 ten point, 131 eight point and one cull. found a 151 ten point and 144 twelve point (eight with four kickers over 2 inches long) deaD. LAST year we took a 141 nine point and two culls. have pictures of some deer that we feel are bigger but just havent seen. better than average hill country deer.gotta let the little ones walk.

Why didn't you call me? I might be a little familiar with that area. And I guess this means you will not be hunting with me this year? If your place is on the tracks, watch good for poachers. You should be in a good area, but you have to let the young ones walk.
