I second the classifieds. You can find some good deals in there. Nice General for sale in there too.

Even though I think you should get a Hoyt, I would be lying if I said that it was the only good brand on the market. Your real question should be: Where should I go to buy a bow? I think, the most important thing when getting outfitted for a bow is to buy it from someone who knows what they are talking about. Finding the right bow will take you shooting a couple and find what YOU like best. There are so many different good bows on the market today that the answers you get on here will be as varied as the Houston population.

Shoot as many in your price range as possible and let the bow pick you. No such critter as the perfect bow for everyone. Only you can decide on how you like the draw cycle, the valley and the wall. Noise and hand shock are another consideration as is ATA.

I agree with ballisticbuda you need to let the bow choose you. Also find a good pro shop that will spend quality time with you (you can find this out by asking lots and lots of quesitons!!) A good shop will push proper form and fit for you and not necessarily their highest priced bow. Just about every brand has a "runner up" bow that is extremely nice. Used bows can be a good buy but make sure you get measured for your draw length first. Most draw lengths can be adjusted but don't find out to late. Good luck.
