3D shoots How do they work???

Another thread got me thinking. I have never been to a 3D shoot, Guess I always thought they were for the guys with expencive bows and that are a good shot...unlike me. So my question is how do they work? Parents and kids shoot together? Keep score? Grouped with other shooters and score as a team? Do you have to be a member of a club? We live in Magnolia and my son is realy taking to archery. For his birthday he wants lighted nocks and a 3D pig target. He is only 11. I think at 11 I was still asking for toys Anyway I think we would realy enjoy shooting at 3D shoots if they are as laid back as the pictures fingershooter posted.

I shoot at Clifton Archery Club and it is laid back on the monthly shoots. There are different classes depending on the sights and arrows you shoot. You and your son can shoot together and you don't have to be a pro to shoot.Yall would have a great time.

There are all different skill levels. Trust me when I say that you will not be the only one shooting that doesn't have a fancy bow.

Unless my hunting rig is considered fancy........ you don't have to have anything special to shoot 3-d.

When I go I am only out there for the practice so I even take my rangefinder at times. When I do, I just don't turn in my card.

          Oh and bring your bino's

3d is a great way to get out and have some fun. Most are just a bunch of good ol guys and gals that are some of the best people you will ever meet. My son started about 11yrs old and loves it. I just got my wife out there last weekend and she did very well !! Just go and have fun....

If/when I get to go, it is a good way to work on judging distance. Go in with the mind set of having a good time.

Our biggest class at MCAC is the Bowhunter Class. Most guys are getting ready for hunting season. Yes, we do have a "fancy" bow class but most of those guys hunt too, they just shoot with different equipment during the summer.

MCAC is open to the public....we do have memberships available. We WANT you to shoot with your son. Have fun and burn up together! HA!!

Some of the best practice you can do. Yeah it's only 30 targets, but you can learn alot on 30 targets. Also, I would be willing to be that ANY member at MCAC would stop to help anyone with any question they have about archery. We have several bow techs that shoot with us and many of the "fancy" bow shooters that know their stuff.

Call me and we can talk more

Basically, I got started with my son just messin around. We started going to the 3-D's at Texins Archery Club and got hooked. There are people of all ages and skill levels. Archers are the best bunch you will ever want to be around. Just gather that boy up and get to a shoot anywhere. There will be plenty of help, I guarntee!

If you are ever in Lubbock (Meadows) on the 3rd Saturday of the month come shoot with South Plains Archery Club. Everyone is welcome to come shoot, it's very laid back and tons of fun. Shoot alone, with family or join in with other groups.

3D is great practice (and the more you practice the better hunter you'll be). My rig is not fancy (94 PSE Polaris) but it gets arrows to the target. Ya don't have to spend a lot of money to have fun.

I've only shot in 2, and the local one was very laid back. All levels of shooters and they group you with people of the same ability. You can request to shoot with your son and they will let you. There will be a target set up and several different pins to shoot from. Many of the youth pins are in the 5-15 yards away from the target. yours will likely be 30 yards and less. You all shoot at the same target, just at different distances. They are scored based on what circle you hit on the target (8,10, and 12 points) or if you just hit the body anywhere it is 5 points. Each person has their own score card. Winners are divided by class, so you won't be shooting against those guys with the wild looking bows.

Ok lets see 30 targets x 5 points if I can just hit each target= 150 points
Wheeeeew I should at least come out with a score of 10 or 15....

My big goal when I started shooting 3D last Summer was "Just hit foam".
