There was another thread about someone taking their son hunting for the first time. I thought I would share our experience also.
On July 2nd My son (6) and I went out to Dennis' (ExtremeHunter)place to hunt for a pig. This would be my sons first time in the stand.
I had explained to him about not talking and he did really good with that. He would wisper a question every now and then but for the most part stayed pretty quiet.
What we did have a problem with was tapping his feet on the floor of the stand, kicking the wall of the stand, loud sigh like exhales, general wiggling and the like.
We had to wait about an hour before the first group of pigs came in. right as I came to full draw I COUGHED! Right after all the pigs ran off, Frank looked at me with a very stern face and asked "what did you do THAT for"
we waited about 30 -45 min for another group to come in and I promptly shot right OVER a pig!
This time he asked me why I didnt just shoot it like I do the target in the back yard?
All in all he did GREAT! I did get a lot of help from the games on my iPhone. That kept him occupied for about 30 or 40 minutes total out of our time in the stand.
I felt bad about missing, but felt good about the time we got to share.
Actually I only thought I felt bad about missing......that is until he recounted the whole story of the hunt to Dennis...on video!
"Dad, you probably missed because you were shaking", "Dont worry, I'll show you how to do it with my bow when we get home", "If you would just pretend that pig was the target in the yard you wouldnt miss, you never miss the target"
Yep, it was all caught on film by Dennis, isnt that great?
And of course Dennis would never ask a 6 year old leading questions that make his dad look even MORE inept would he......naaaa.
Anyway, I had a great time, my son had a great time, and thats all that really matters!
BTW, if anyone wants to go on a great hog hunt PM Dennis. He has a great place, and is a first class guy to hang out with!
I think he is just kind of getting a few folks to come out and hunt right now, but soon he will open it as a hunting ranch. I think he has plans to become a sponsor here and when he does he should be booked almost every day.
(He also has some axis and black bucks, but you cant hunt them yet)
Thanks Dennis for letting us come out!
