Out of Staters on a Deer Lease?

    Hey ya'll -
I'm thinkin about gettin on a lease next year down there so that I can get some more hunting in.

Do any of you guys have out of state guys on your deer leases? If so, does it work out ok? Since they obviously can't be there every weekend to work, do they come down when they can or just pay more or what?

    Thanks for the info!

I bet that the landowner would be willing to help ya fill feeders and all. I know I would if you were my hunter!

we had some guys from tennesse on ours a few years ago, im not the one that let them on but i think it was a big effin mistake.. those guys only had so many days they could be there and hunt, and would shoot the first decent buck that walked out regardless of age.. we are only supposed to kill mature bucks.. they didnt know the ranch didnt do anywork it was kinda like baby sitting..

I've been hunting with folks from Arkansas...

on our west Texas mule deer lease for 28 years. And my dad was hunting with the same group of guys near Dryden for 15 years before that. It works out. Everyone pitches in to do the cooking, cleaning, etc. Those that don't help don't get invited back-and i can only remember one of those. I make out a list of food items to bring based on a menu that everyone says that they like. Everyone has two days where they do the cooking-all three meals. Since this is for the mule deer season and it's only two weeks long, we cook three meals a day. Once everyone tells me what they are bringing for their main dinner meals I make up a menu and assign grocery items for each group to bring based on when they are going to arrive. If we run out of things we go to Van Horn. Each person brings their own alcohol, but everyone saves their food receipts and everything, including gas, is split up by the group near the end of the hunt. This way it works out somewhat equitible;however the Arkansas guys do pay higher license fees.

We have had some guys, both from Texa and not from Texas, who weren't on the program about killing small bucks. When we had doe permits it wasn't such a problem. Since we have no permits some guys have the menatality that "I am going home with something" and we've kinda tolerated them only because they work so hard. Not any more. They don't get invited back either. Can't kill big ones if you don't let them grow up.

Im with shaftslinger. We had 8 out of staters on our Mexico lease and it was mostly the same thing. The ones that flew in had no transportation on a 14,000 acre ranch and depended on the rest of us to taxi them to see and learn the ranch. We were happy to TELL them about anything but good gravy man! 14,000 acres is a ton of country to try to blindly guide someone on. The good side of it was, they were only there about 10 days of the season.

I know that when I make my 14 day trip to Nebraska every year, I just do what I can while I am there to help out. Seems to work good.

I think it all depends on the land ownerand what you set up with him/her in the begining.

                Tuff...

the lease was actually closer to Pumpville. The landowner passed away more than 10 years ago and it has since been divided up by the children and sold off. Only about 8K acres remains in the family. I never got to hunt it but hear that the remaining 8K is leased out and hunted by stands only. Prior to that there was about 25K acres and no one hunted from stands. It was all jeep hunting back then. They killed a buttload of deer off that place.
