GM 10-Bolt, how do I pull out the differential?

Ok guys my spider gears blew up. I need to pull out my diff, I pulled the pin out of the differential but I can figure out how to push the axles in to pull the c-clips off of them. Any ideas guys? Thanks in advance!

the only thing I can think of is that you have some spider gear parts lodged in there somewhere. You should be able to pull the drums off and just push the axles in with your hands far enough to pull the c clips off. The axles dont have to move far either

Ok if i do get it pushed in will the c-clips come off easy or will i need some sort of tool? Most of the spider gears are gone so its real easy to see them lol

I use a magnet, makes it real easy cause they are covered in slippery diff oil, trying to pull them out by hand is a pain in the rear. they should come out pretty easy, they could have gotten torn up though. Good luck to ya

Ok I got everything out and its just looking more expensive lol. Its an 84 suburban with 38s on it with a 350 in it. Would it be ok to put a mini spool in it instead of spider gears if im gonna be driving it on the road around town? Thanks for the help it was just stuck lol.

You don't want to spool a town truck.

It will eat tires and have all kinds of bad manners on wet roads.

You might be better finding a whole rearend from junkyard.

x2 spools are a real PITA on a daily driver. They have only two uses, mud and the drag strip.

                  38's? On a 10 bolt?

Now seems like the perfect time for a junkyard set of 1 ton axles!

Too much rubber for those little axles!

I would bet it's easier to drop the entire rear housing, and go to a junkyard, replace it with a 12 bolt....that's what I did years ago. The 10 bolt diff just isn't as strong.... those spider gears blow up all the time

As much as I would love to drop some one ton axles in it I cant afford that right now. With that said, all i really need to do is pull the spider gears out and replace them, but my question is what are the springs and little brackets that are in there also? I assume it is some sort of clutch but im not sure where to start on what to buy just to repair this, im in college and money is extremely tight so please help me out guys. Thanks alot
