I have decided after wanting one for 6 years I want to get me a lab puppy. I want a regestered one and I don't know where to look. I'm in Parker county so anywhere in the metroplex will work. I think I want a black female. I don't know much about the different colors but seems the black ones are calmer than the others.

Been looking for over a year for the right litter and cant find em'. I dont need one (already have one), but have an outlet for started and finished dogs. I aint puttin time in to anything thats not what they want.
Black female is what I lookin for as well.
Someone had some good lookin pups in the classified that I would bet would make a good hunting dog.

The colors mean nothing as far as temperment. A lab will just be a lab. Get whatever color you like. It will take them 1-2 years to calm down. Just because a lab is registered it doesn't mean that they are good. I would look for a puppy that has hip certification. They are very prone to hip displacia and you do not want to deal with that. It can cripple a dog and drastically decrease it's lifespan just when it should be in his prime. I would look to an established kennel to get one. You can probably get a great dog at a price not much more than you would pay for an "AKC Lab" from the paper in this economy.

When you buy labs or any large breed dogs always make sure the parents are OFA hip tested. If they have had OFA elbow testing also thats great. temperment is genetic so take a look at the parents.
This guy is a client of mine and raises great dogs. he testes them for everthing. His pups are expensive but worth it.

There was a litter of nice black pups in the classifieds on here, are they sold already?
And, maybe it's just coincidence, but I disagree with color not mattering as far as temperament goes. I've had labs all my life, I've got a yellow and a chocolate laying next to me now - in my experience Chocs are very mellow, blacks a bit more wild and yellows are off the hook. My chocolate lab, and the two I've had before him, all were very mellow dogs, just laze around not a care in the world. The two yellows I've had could hardly sit still well until 5 or 6 years old. I've only had one black and she was a mix of the two.
My best friend had a choc and yellow too (the choc died, he still has the yellow) and his dogs are almost twins of mine in terms of looks and temperament.
Could just be my luck, bust that's what I've noticed so far.
But, regardless of color - a lab has to be a part of the family
