I carry a small red lens LED light that I'll flip on to look at something.
But I usually walk without the light on.

BTW- I grew up coon hunting with my grandfather.
My grandmother always told me the most dangerous thing in the woods at night is a "stick in the eye"

And all those years of coon hunting with my grandfather saved my life more than a few times when I was a grunt in Nam.

led head lamp in hand half coverd. I have walked up on 3 deer 3 different times with that led light and they seemed to have no clue I was there. I dont know if they can see it so now I dont worry about covering it up that much.

My son, grandsons and I ,all have this cap light and use it every morning...we drive a mule close by and feed the senderos but use the lights to actually walk to the stands.

I use a small light. I also hunt more in Arkansas which is deep woods and thickets which makes it very dark. You can get turned around real easy. I normally put markers on the trees going into my stands so just the smallest bit of light will reflect off them.

Now during early season, my light is on the ground. We have some HUGE Cottonmouths up there!

I don't use any light devise going to the stand. I think I integrate better to my surroundings without the artificial light; better night vision...enhanced senses, etc.

I hate snakes. Therefore I use a light. Period!

If it's a full moon no light, otherwise I use just enough to get to the stand.

I used to always walk in to the stand in the dark, until a few things happened that have changed my mind.
Dad killed a mountain lion on our place in Junction that had to cross my track.
I nearly stepped on two rather large rattle bugs in Junction.
I had a single quail try to fly up my leg on my way to the stand.
Now I carry and use a mini mag on full power!!!

I use a light, I hunt on public lands a lot and people shoot or sling arrows at any sound or movement, so you can call it a hunter safety issue.
