Looking for a .308 reloader to verify bad Rem 700 issue-advice needed

Is the bulge in the neck, shoulder or body of the case, Dave?

Now we're talking.
The one thing I dislike about this gun is the goose barrel.
I thought I could make do with it, but if it was in the cards cutting some off would sure make it more pleasurable to use.
Do you have the equipment to do this?
I'm not looking for free, just don't want to get taken for a ride going to a smith I don't know (because that is how many I know- 0)

my gunsmith has a 1 week turnaround yet he is in Independence, LA about 2 hrs from Lafayette

there are some very good smiths all over TX as they could easily do this job (set barrel back, re-cahmber, cut barrel to 22" ?? and target crown) . Turnaround time is something to consider if you're in a hurry.

no clue on price as each smith has their own charges , I'm guessing around $150-$175 ?????? could be more/less.

i'd also get a trigger job done .... somewhere around 2 lbs crisp. I can do that for you free of charge , yet i live pretty far away

one thing to also consider, once you dump $200 into a factory rifle and barrel work, you won't be able to recoup much $$$ in re-sale value since it is still a factory Rem 700

one other thing, rem will use the same reamer to chamber 50+ barrels. Your chamber could be sloppy and cut with a dull reamer . The first barrel cut with a new reamer will be more accurate/precise than the 50th barrel cut with the same reamer

Rolling a mic around the Body exposed a bulge for sure.

The reloading jig wouldn't fit over the shell (I'm really not in the know with reloading) so I'm guessing it was in the neck as well, but I don't see it.

$150-175 is right up my alley.
There is a guy within driving distance the same coworker used to trick out his 700 (Aquila arms) maybe I can e-mail him & see what he'd charge since he hasn't returned my phone message .

There is no recouping cost with this gun, the amount of lead I shoved down the pipe has already killed that idea.

I would love to dump the money in a custom barrel, but this thing has come up from out of no where, kinda like a speeding ticket- money I didn't plan on spending.

My .270 700 is a 24" barrel, is that a pretty standard length that might be able to still reach out there?

the burnt marks on the case is normal,as is the neck expansion. the bulge on the case body unless extensive, i don't see a problem in the brass from the pics. imho , if the cases were bad you would have extraction issues. which you are not. have you inspected the crown,or checked the base and scope screws. if they all look good i would send it back to remmy. just my 2cts. on another note a 20 inch barrel is not too short to reach out there,i had mine taken down to 18.5 and it still gets it out to 1000

Crown looks good to my eye, base & scope screws were tight last I checked.

That is making a 20" more desirable.
I'm willing to spend the money to make it a gun I reach for instead of dread using.
