    I hate a thief!

Once again Salt Grass Archery Club has been the target of thieves. This time they broke into our container and stole three 3-D targets. The missing targets are a leopard, a poison frog and a bedding deer. We have been broken into several times in the last few years and we are frustrated by a lack of information. We have reported all the break-ins to the Parks Department and the Hitchcock PD, but have not as yet had any luck in recovering the missing targets or in identifying the perpetrators.

Please keep your eyes open and let us know if you spot a leopard or poison frog target in your travels, as we are fairly sure there aren't many in this area. These are expensive targets and we cannot continue to keep losing targets at this rate. Unfortunately, since Salt Grass is in a county park, there is only so much we can do to thwart the thieves. We have a 20' shipping container that we use to store our targets and we have had multiple locks cut off the container. Aside from posting a sniper at the range, we are running out of ways to try to stop the break-ins. I realize that we may never find out who is doing this or find our targets, but I have to give it a shot. I'm not sure if the missing frog was a red one or a green one, we had both.

Yeah, Tubby, we have thought about that. That may be a move we have to make. I know there are a bunch of teen-aged 3-and-4 wheeler riders along the bayou that are probably responsible for some of the vandalism we have experienced, but I'm not sure they would be interested in the targets. I'm wondering if it might not be some jerk wanting to set up his own little private 3-d range without the expense of actually purchasing the targets.

Hate to hear that. Those are unique targets, so hopefully, something will turn up.

You might also look into a better lock for the container. The puck type are almost thief proof and at $25 might be worth it.

Devin, great advice on a new lock. That looks bullet proof.

I am sure that there are enough folks around here that have camo as well as a silent tool that would not mind settin' in a tree for a bit

Might also consider an alarm or video surveilance system to back up the locks. That way you can give proof to the cops of who did it and give them a little more lead than the missing stuff. Someone knows youre an easy target (no pun intended) and will continue to go back until theyre caught.
