    Cool story

That is a cool story. I wonder why the BBC would have said that in 68.

Because that was when we orbited the moon for the first time. It was Apollo 8 with Borman, Lovell (Apollo 13 fame) & Anders as the crew

He said that we had put astronauts in the gravitational pull of another celestial body. We first orbited the moon in 68.

OK, got it now. I'm a little slow on Monday through Sunday.

I feel saddened by this story. We had soldiers in POW camps totally ignored, not even acknowledged by some, and our screwed up government was spending millions of dollars, dollars that could have saved soldiers lives, to go to the moon. By all means, the moon was a great goal and great accomplishment, but our boys in the service were and are so much more important. Sorry for the rant, carry on!

I thought it was done in Detroit?

It is a cool story. I was visiting my grandparents in Arkansas. We'd went over to see this old man with a glass eye named Amon Hamby and he was watching on his old black and white. My brother and I sat there and watch with him while my sister, mother and grandmother visited with his wife. We were glued to the TV.
