    The Open Championship

I know the TBH Open is big, but there's something BIGGER that started this morning across the pond. You can have your Masters and US Open. The British Open is my favorite tournament of the year by far.

How about old Tom Watson posting the 65 to take the early lead?!

I did a double take when I saw the scoreboard this morning! That would be great for Tom to keep up the good play for the next three days.

I love all golf majors......but let's not go puttin this one above The Masters. I know the British is the oldest and all that. Scotland may be where golf was born, but Augusta is where it was perfected!

Watching it right now. Love the Open Championship. The Masters was my favorite up until they started trying to Tiger-proof it and took away a lot of its appeal.

You can have YOUR beloved, hoity toity Masters, Dale. The Open is a truer test of a golfer's imagination, skill, patience and mental fortitude. Loves me some links golf.

You been in the sun too long Larry.

Links golf= golf without trees, water, and other stuff that makes golf....golf! Lots of wind....and no trees.......why don't they just start playin the British open in Lubbock?

I'm just yankin yer chain of course, but I do still prefer trees on my golf. But I will dang sure be watchin on Sunday (deer lease Saturday)!

Masters vs The Open...... Two very different types of courses Augusta is very tight and the Links style courses are wide open with very strong winds and pot hole bunkers. To me the links courses are easierto shoot a low number but at the same time if your game is off it could get ugly quick! Augusta you have got to hit every shot perfect for 4 days to be able to win. I would much rather win the Masters if I could have a choice of winning a major. But my hats off to Tom for shooting a great score at his age.

Has the wind ever blown in the 30's @ the Masters? If it was the would stop play.

Rough you can't find your ball in is no different than a water hazard.
Thats why theres so much water in Augusta. And trees.

I have no favorite, I like them all. The courses they play on are what make the wins so special.

Now if they made all the courses with retractable roofs would you even watch?

Couldn't have said it better myself. By the way, another thing that makes the Masters special is that it is held at the same course every year and they do it the way they want. There are no governing bodies like the USGA or the R&A.

                              like a sponge Larry.....

soak it in, soak it in.....

Watson has been one of my favorites for years, since I was in elementary and my Dad used to pull me out of school to go watch the Byron Nelson and the Colonial.

He was a genuinely nice guy -- he even asked me to be his caddy once -- he said his caddy was sick and he needed a fill-in -- it was all a big joke set up by my dad's friend, but I got a great autograph and some one-on-one with him at the driving range. Heck of a great guy! Hope he pulls it off!
