    A/C coil quote

I had the A/C guy out last week since one of my units was not cooling. It is the unit for my bedroom and mancave so it took top priority. He checked in the attic and said the coil had a small leak. He put 5-1/2 lbs of freon (or whatever the new stuff is) and said the leak was small and the amount he added would probably last a year. He said there were 11 other people in the area that had coil leaks as well. The unit was installed new in 2003. I don't know what brand it is.

Well.......... He gave me a quote to replace the coil.
"The cost of replacement of the indoor coil on the system in your house is $1,055.00."

Does this seem reasonable or should I get a 2nd opinion?

ALLWAYS get a 2nd!! you might get a differant opinion of the problem and or price...I have followed up many a tech that gave the wrong diagnosis...and I'm sure I have made mistakes and or been under bid also...just being a honest a/c tech

Did he find the leak or just say it was the indoor coil because he couldn't? Depending on the brand, sometimes there ain't much difference in buying a whole new indoor unit! That's what happened on my lennox. Ain't buyin' any more of them!

Next tech that tells you that you have a leak, ask him to point to the leak. I've only had one system that I could not find the leak and the lineset on it was over 75' long and about 15' of it was buried under a freshly poured slab. And always get a second opinion. Some evaporator leaks can be fixed, depends on the location of the leak.
