Need advice on having a will written in Sugar Land.

I feel it's time for me to have a will written. I'm no spring chicken anymore and I have lost several of my good friends. I don't feel I'm going anywhere soon but I want to make sure my family gets everything they should without having to go thru any obstacles in case something did happen.

I'm looking for something that will be iron clad without costing a lot.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This is only my sincere opinion....

    1) Do you have term life insurance? If you do not, are you in fairly good health to apply for a 20 year term policy now?

    2) Lawyers are good resources, and money well spent. Wills however are not written by lawyers anymore, they are copied out of books or software (I know, I have my own attorney, and he informed me the same thing). Quicken WillMaker is a good resource, if you want to draw up the Medical POA and Durable POA along with your will. Follow the wizard, put in what you want, and go through the process, and get it signed. However, I know many people who do not want to do that, and will gladly pay an attorney. I do not blame them. The law is a scary thing, and thinking that something might not be covered is scary. You can have it looked over by an attorney and be good to go as well.

    3) Go to the county clerk's office at the Courthouse and look through recent probates (it is public record, so no need to feel weird about that). These probates include a person's last will and testament, which if you look at a few of them, you will notice the similarities between them.

These are simply my opinions. If I were doing my will all over again, I'd do it one of these two ways (life insurance is just that much more capable of assisting any lingering debts that may arise through my death). I carry enough life insurance for the remaining years up until my retirement money would have kicked into full gear (I'm 27 now, so 30 year is the max I could get.... 20 year is more reasonable, and can be updated close to the maturity to renew for another 20 years if needed). If you own a home, mortgage payments, etc., car payments, it is wise to have enough life insurance to cover those debts, and any other monetary obligations as to not hinder the standard of living for your wife or kids or other family members that will be receiving your assets upon your death.

I'm not an attorney, but an accountant, and my passion is not only retirement, and saving money from the IRS(Gov), but to help plan for everything, and that includes the possibility of death occurring sooner than later. I do not sell insurance, make commission off advice, just a humble servant wanting to help all those I can. Many other people will offer different advice as well.

My mother talked with a lawyer and she didn't want to spend alot either.

She hand wrote her will and took it to a notery. Done deal.
