Size of windows in a bow blind

I am building a bow blind. 6x6x6. Plan on putting 2 windows in the front side to shoot out of. What size do you like for the vertical windows? I know alot depends on the chair but how far up from the floor do you typically put the bottom of the window? Blind has a 12inch base and will sit on the ground.

    ground blind

We built some ground blinds last year and they work great! I belive that our windows are about 6 to 8" wide and 18" to 24" long. I would just put a chair in there and see where you need to start the bottom. make sure and brush in the blind as good as possible. you can even put shoot thru mesh if you are worried about them seeing you, but honestly we have not had any problems with that. I have the plans for our groud blinds if you are interested. they were easy to make and very reasonable.

Tape a Sharpie to the end of you arrow......draw you bow while sitting in the specific chair you are hunting out of....touch sharpie to wall and cut a few inches lower to allow for closer shots. Don't go too high with the top because all height does is let more light in your blind. I think my windows are 14-15" from top to bottom and I have no problems shooting with flat ground in front of me.

My blinds sit about a foot off the ground with cinder blocks and the 2x6" bases

Note here below I took off the small board at the bottom of the window. I was trying to close it down to reduce movement but afterward decided it would block my arrow on a close in shot. it goes another 2" lower on what you see below.

thanks guys. Luckyshot the blind is almost done but appreciate the offer. I am sure others on here would be interested though. Have you put the design in the DIY section?

wes. Kevin and I built ours (above) this year. They are working great. You may have seen our other threads. If you need some help, let me know.

The windows on my Double Bull T5 start at 31" from the bottom so that's where I'm putting them in the ground blind I'm building. Of course if the blind is going to be elevated they need to start lower. Smart makes a good point - 14-15" inches tall is plenty unless you are planning on taking 75 yard shots or just enjoy looking at the sky.

Expounding on what i said above.....and I am just using Aggie Balls windows as reference here since he provided a good picture of what I was trying to say above. I like his set up ....in fact my windows were similar length but when I kept getting seen in my blind i decided to close it down. You can see the original size in the first pic and then the closing down in the next two pics...the two cross boards on the front are closing my windows down a good 12".

Anyway....looking at the bottom pic, virtually everything above the red line would let in more light than I need unless, like jerp said, you like looking at the sky IMO. Again this is just something to think about. If you use shoot through mesh, do what you like.....I don't so I close mine down as much as I can without hindering my view or my shot.

Remember when you are building them that I am a little taller than you Wes!
