    Fence cleaning

I want to get our fences cleaned at our ranch so I am looking for some concentrated grass killer that will kill small trees and weeds. Can anyone help out with some names or where I can find some?

Roundup might do it if the "trees" are real small.

REmedy and diesel mixed 1:1 will kill the bigger saplings. Wet the bark about 18" up and it will be dead in a week

Actually if you use Remedy you will go broke quickly using a 1:1 ratio. We use a 8:1 and it works great and our neighbors use 10:1 and it seems to work well. At basically $100 a gallon for Remedy you will REALLY want to go more than 1:1!!! It will do the job and take care of fence lines very well.

Remedy would be your better option for weeds or stemy plants. Roundup is more productive on grasses.

Clear Pasture will do the trick if you can find it, feed stores may carry it and most should be able to order it for you. We used it for spraying mesquite after RX burns that were flagging (trees that we wanted to remove were treated with clear pasture/diesel mix applied to the base). its for woody stemmed plants and works well on the grasses also.

Clear pasture is the generic for remedy. Dont spray by anything you want to live as it will travel through the root system. Dont ask how aI know.

Are you spraying this mix foliar(on the leaves) or basal (on the bark)? Dad uses the 1:1 ratio (diesel:remedy) on basal applications. If you can cut it down to 8:1 and still get the same effectiveness he will be glad to know it

                Thanks for the info.

Here is a site I found that has weed to pest control.
                Control Solutions Inc.

Don't know if they sell to the public but will call tomorrow and find out.

we never had problems with it leaching, only about a three foot diameter around the trees base was killed. that was mainly from the mist coming out of the nozzle. Now Velpar on the other hand will leach a long ways and kill everything, it also stays dormant and will continue to kill for up too three years with above average rain. this has been my experience spraying these chemicals for several years while working and guiding on a predominantly quail hunting ranch in Jim Hogg co. during the off season we sprayed brush and mesquites for 8-10 hours a day till we had covered everything we planned to spray that year. after a few months we would go back in and spray the things that were missed or spray driving lanes through thick areas. its costly at first but if done right you shouldnt have to go back and spray that much in the coming years. thats where the spot spraying or maintenance aspect comes into play.

Spike 20 or Spike 80. Spike 20 is a powder form. Mix it in your hand pump sprayer, spray a stream down the fenceline. It will kill everything with roots within 5 feet of either side of the spray line. The grass will come back, but brush and small trees will not. It will last for years, too. All of my neighbors swear by it too. The per acre cost is the lowest, too. And, you do not need a pesticide applicator license to apply it, either.

I've been told that utility companies use it to keep the brush cleared under power lines - you know the big power lines.

Dusty Britches, do you recommend the Spike 20 or the Spike 80?
