    trad gator...

I drew an Alabama gator tag for the August season.

Anybody ever killed one with trad gear?

or got any advise on equipment, etc?

btw, I have killed em with a 22mag, 40S&W, and seven with a claw hammer..all over seven feet. just not a bow.

Sounds like you don't need any advice, lol. Good luck though.

I haven't shot one with trad gear but I have with my compound. Same as anything else for me....... good sharp broadhead and go for the head shot. Rolls 'em up like a dirty bugger!

I know a few folks that have shot them with recurves and I am going to guess they say pretty much the same answer.

I shot one with my longbow last September. It depends on Alabama's regs. I hit mine in the soft spot in the back of the head and it didn't move. I used a FMJ 300 (11.6 grn per inch) with a 100 Thunderhead XP.

Bobby shot his with his bowfishing rig and it rolled with the line and attached buoy. He had to shoot it again with his compound hunting rig. It put up a real fight.

It is an awesome experience. Nothing like seeing the blood flow into the water.

          Good luck and congrats!

Alabama requires that you use an attached line to secure the gator, no free swimming gator kills. Prolly going to use a fish arra, gator point, attached to a deep sea rod/reel. Gotta practice that though. Prollly finish it with a stone point

I think I lined up a local fishing guide to guide me that has killed a couple gators, has boat, lights, etc. Ought to be fun...
