      FYI

Foster's in Hockley is peddling Bush Hog 4430 4x4 UTV 's with a Honda engine for $5999.

I am not affiliated ... just thought it seemd like a deal.

Ok, here is the latest. I went to Bestpriceatv in Dallas and finally drove one of these. Am I impressed with it, Not really. Am I disgouraged by it. No. I am no better off than when I started really. I went there knowing this was not going to be a Ranger, but at the same time it didn't cost 12K either. I was not impressed with the store front or the assembly area. Seemed like a lot of unessasary chaos going on. (Was not very clean at all.) The so called salesman (said he had been there for 3 weeks) had an assembly guy bring a 2 seater out for me to test drive. (they didn't have a 4 seater ready) I talked with the tech guy about it for almost an hour. Only talked to the saleman for about 10 minutes. I took it out for a drive and the first thing I noticed was, it was not as quiet as I expected. The only thing is I don't know how quiet a new Ranger is either. I have never driven in one. There was really no good terrian to test on so I found a pretty step ditch to go up and down. I was impressed with the tork that it seemed to have. Made it thru without bogging down or skipping a beat. I floored it a few times and the thing is semi fast, but I really dont think it can do 50 mph like the ad says. I would say the ride was OK as far as smoothness goes. Once again, I have nothing to compare it to. I really liked the worm geared dump bed. I like the camo pattern it has. Don't like the old time emergency brake. (brake pad on a disk attached to the drive shaft.) I dont know if the Rangers, Mules, Rhinos..etc are like this also though. I will have to look into that. All in All, like someone said, I'm getting what I pay for. Back to the salesman. I ask him what was his bottom price to walk out with one, The boss was gone (it was past closing time) and he would have to ask tomorrow, but he quoted 7100. I told him no he needs to come down to 6700, TTL out the door. He said the owner would prob. not go for that and he doesn't like to get insulted with a price like that. I laughed at him and said well I'm insulting him then, I give him my card and told him to have the manager call me tomorrow. I don't expect he will though.

To answer 2 of your questions-
I am really impressed with how quiet my 09 700 XP Ranger is.
It just kinda voooms around staying nice & quiet. ( they changed the cut in the tranny gears in the 2008 1/2 models which cured the jet turbine noise they used to make).

The e-brake is on the rear output drive shaft as well.
With 4 wheel disc I guess going inside the rear disc w/ a mini drum like a trucks is too costly.

There was a guy advertising 500 cc Rangers or Razors for $8999 in the western part of the state (I think I found his adds on Craigslist).

For the price you were quoted you're not very far away from picking up a good used Teryx- there were a lot of used Teryx's out there when I was shopping- sure was tempting.
But if you are going to hold out for a 4 seater that would leave you with the Ranger crew or the Mule (also a great option) .

One of my fears on the off brands is buying CVT & tranny parts 5 years from now with those things tend to need some maintenance. We know all the big name quads should still be around.
With the cheng - shens, you never know....

Thanks for the update, Navajo. Was really wondering about them.

Good stuff, Dave. Thanks for the comparisons.

If I could just find a ranger crew for under 10K, this would be all over! LOL

It is highly anticipated that the 2010's will be designed like the 2009XP's-
A- arm front end, tilt wheel, more leg room, more angle to the seat.
If so, you might find a dealer willing to deal on a leftover 2009 crew- if there is such a monster.
When I bought the XP the dealer inventories were low, they said they had no problems moving the units.

I asked about the down economy & was told-
"the majority of our Ranger buyers already have their money"
I'm still shocked at how much these things cost.

                  Good luck on your quest.

Navajo have you checked any Polaris dealers in Oklahoma? Being in Wylie your not to far from Jones Power Sports in Durant (I bought my 2007 Ranger from Jones) or the Polaris dealer in Antlers. I saved about 1000 dollars by buying mine in Oklahoma over what was being offered here in Texas and I was being told that I was offered almost dealer cost here in Texas. Obviously that was untrue. Plus back when I bought mine there was no tax on ATV/UTV in Oklahoma. I didn't have to use a farm number either. Make sure and let them know you are coming from Dallas and that you have a good quote from a dealer here in Denton or Mckinney. I bet they make you a deal.

Let me know if you need the contact info for either place or you could just google them.
