I've been in clear lake for the summer, a bayou right by the house has a few 6ft gator gar in it, it almost seem i can never be in the right place at the right time. im in the water where i've seen them rolling, i look up and one rolls 50yds in front of me. any pointers on how to get in range?

IMO you would help yourself out if your rig is set up with a float..... 6ft. anything is alot tuffer than you think it is!!!! Hate to see you lose your fishing bow.

Sometimes gar will shy away from a boat, keep trying and keep noise to a minimum. Gar will stay in the same area. Once you get a shot and an arrow in one lay your bow down and keep some slight tension on the line, be ready for runs she will so and don't get your fingers burned or tangled. Try to be patient until you can get the gar close to the surface and have someone else get an arrow into it. Then you can be more physical with it.....the best time for big gar is very early in the am...just as the sun is coming up...Good Luck...
