Go at night with a light. They will surface around the light for the bait fish that come around.

Portable lights and dog food..... wait on the bank for him to come in.

IMO you would help yourself out if your rig is set up with a float..... 6ft. anything is alot tuffer than you think it is!!!! Hate to see you lose your fishing bow.

if it is rigged for bowfishing just use the lights on your boat that should be plenty. If you don't have lights rigged then a spot light can work if you have someone or someway to hold it steady for you

You need three people. I'll sit in the middle.

bait an area with cheap floating dog food make sure the wind is in your favor... you'll pull up a lot of carp but those gars also favor the stuff for some reason...

most importantly dont use your bow real to try and real in a 6 foot gar. grab the line and let the tug of war begin...

Sometimes gar will shy away from a boat, keep trying and keep noise to a minimum. Gar will stay in the same area. Once you get a shot and an arrow in one lay your bow down and keep some slight tension on the line, be ready for runs she will so and don't get your fingers burned or tangled. Try to be patient until you can get the gar close to the surface and have someone else get an arrow into it. Then you can be more physical with it.....the best time for big gar is very early in the am...just as the sun is coming up...Good Luck...
