Drag Boat Crashes

I ran across this video today. It reminded me of my uncle who used to race these boats. He was in a crash like this years ago and barely came out alive.

I saw one worse than those back in '76 at the Austin Aquafest when they still ran the drags on Town Lake. Guy in a blown hydro was almost to the trap (probably going 225-250) when he must have hit something floating on the water...the hull just blew up into palm size pieces of fiberglass and that 426 hemi just kept skipping like a rock for about 200 yards...the guys chute deployed but he was major screwed up...

I went to Waco in the early 80's a few times to watch them race on the Brazos. Saw a few crashes. Scarey part was being a spectator and seeing how close you were to the action and how little it would take for it to come your way.

Hell of a guy though.... got a chance to play a poker tourny with him once. He had us all laughin the whole time telling stories.

Those boat wrecks just look nasty on video........... they are much worse when you are standing there and it happens.

Drag Boat Races this weekend at Marine Creek Lake. I'd like to go but it supposed to so HOT! I may have to take a rain check. Always some eye candy there though.

Only a few on here would appreciate this, but I actually ran Eddie Hills Hemi Block in our 7.90 alcohol car, said block was fished out of the bottom of Firebird Lake....

That is some crazy stuff !!! Even if you survive falling out, you've got to worry about pieces of the boat catching back up with you.
