    ATV tire question

Just bought some factory tires off a guy who upgraded to something bigger and on the sidewall it says to inflate to 36 psi. I thought that was alot. My old tires which were super swampers only held about 5 psi. Does that sound right?

I have no clue but make sure it doesn't say 3.6. I had a similar deal, but was on a really small go cart tire. Had to look twice.

on stock tires the side walls are alot more pliable and need alot more air to stay upright, but on your mud tires or more aggresive tires the side walls are a higher ply there for require less air. Ive got gorilla's 26'' on my four wheeler now and say max psi 5 and my stock was 35 psi

My tires take 7-10psi on a 14" rim, a regular tire guage won't even read on my tires when fully inflated. I have to use the one that came with the bike.

It is either 3.6 or 3-6, NOT 36 psi. You have to use special ATV tire pressure guages because a regular wont read at that low of a pressure.

I think the range on mine is 5-8 lbs.

That might be the pressure required to set the bead. My ITPs are around 7 psi, but it takes around 20 something to set the bead.

I just looked at them again. It says 36 psi. They are dunlop 25x8x12 on front and 25x10x12 on back.

It's gotta be 36 to set the bead. I had Dunlop 23x12 on my Wolverine and I kept them at 4-5 lbs.

Right now there fully inflated (thats the way I got them). Should I let enough air out of them until there about 4-5 lbs?

Yeah I certainly would. When you get them lower, push the tire with your foot. You'll know if its plenty of air or not. The higher the pressure the rougher the ride.

36 sounds too high - I'm no expert but a typical ATV is in the range of 3-8 psi and I don't even think racing ATV's go higher. Better too low than too high
