Definately needs to be ground checked and the owner needs to work with yall on this cause the deer like that breed into the genes and soon you will have alot of big 6s running around.
I believe him to be 5 1/2. He has been this same size for 3 years straight. I cant really blame the land owner for being skeptical b/c when he brought the land 7 years ago it was nothing but outlaws that ran dogs and shot everything that moved. Now it is very common to see 15-20 deer a hunt with several nice bucks mixed in which was unheard of a few years ago in our part of Louisiana. I think he is just worried if he gives the ok to shoot the mature sixes on the property people will take advantage of it and shoot young deer and say they thought they were mature culls.
I say take him as a cull...we had a 4 1/2 - 5 1/2 yo similar to him taken on our place last year...he was a HUGE mature 6...he had been a six the year before and wasn't ever gonna be more than a six...
I'm saying that deer is 3.5 and will be 4.5 this year. He is all he is going to be and should be a toad this year. I would think he would make a dandy of a bow buck...
