dont know what they call them....I've head deadman before....but its the screw in auger that they tie trailer houses down with.....you screw it in the ground with a long cheater pipe...it has a eye to attach a cable to......I would trust that way more than screwing something into the side of a tree

if it was not so dry out there and not rocky, that would be an option...but what dirt is there is actually pretty much as useless as sand....

I might be able to beat a t-post into the ground at an angle with a pretty heavy setter...but then there is the mounting....

this tree has a rather large girth, might have to use a couple ratchet straps to get it all the way around....

        Lag bolts

We use lag bolts in 9 feeder/winch combos. If you're worried about 4 lag bolts killing the tree you need to find a bigger tree . We use a boat winch welded onto a metal plate with 4 lag bolts holding it to the tree. We use cable instead of the nylon and it works great. Find a branch (8"+ diameter) and run an eye bolt through it with a pulley on the end. Our feeders weigh 500 lbs when full and we haven't had any problems in 20+ years. You can also use bailing wire to keep the feeder from spinning and orient the solar panel towards the sun. Jason Slocum
