I'm getting my axis mounted but can't decide on if I want to leave the horns the way I shot him with the dried velvet hanging off and white horns. My taxidermist said he wouldn't charge me to stain the horns. Just wanted some opinions about how you guys would have it done. Here is a pic.

If you didn't like him that way, you shoulda shot a different one ... well, that's my take on it anyway. I don't fix horns or antlers on any of my animals. If they didn't have it when I shot them, they're not getting it back!

I'd leave it. Most likely if and when you shoot another it will be all hard with no old velevet or possibly all in velvet.
And if by the off chance you dont like it the way it is, I believe you can have it stripped and stained or whatever after the mount is complete.
