Good starter bow for 8 yr old

I'm looking for a good starter bow for my 8 yr old son. I would like some input on whether he should start out with a compound or traditional. I bought him a $50 BP bow (cheap fiberglass but dada had a bow so he had to have one) last year but he is really interested and wants to get serious about shooting. I took him to a bow shop last week and he was able to pull 20# consistently. I would like to find a bow that he can grow with and that will last him several years and then can pass on to his 6 yr old brother. He is left eye dominant so will need a left handed bow. Any suggestions or recommendations that won't break the bank? There are Hoyt and Bowtech dealers close to me.

The diamond razor edge may fit the bill. Very adjustable for draw length and draw weight. I'm not sure if it goes down to 20lbs. I also believe parker bows have a growth program for a few of the bows.

I have an 8 year old as well. I have been looking at the Mission Menace(mathews bow).

It adjust from about 17-30" DL and from about 18-52 #

The Razor edge only goes down to 27 pounds. The mission menace is dependently adjustable--you change draw length you change draw weight. The Parker Sidekick starts at 20-30 pounds and each set of limbs increase up to 50. You can get new limbs strin and cable if needed from Parker factory for only 50.00. They will turn it around in 2 days. The sidekick also is independent adjustable in Draw weight and Draw length without a press. Check it out at parkerbows.com.
            Hope this helps.

Bear archery makes a bow called "pioneer II" that will go down to 10 pounds. My two youngest have one each The limbs and cams can be changed out as the child grows older. The first set of cams have a draw length adjustment of 13" -27"!! The first set of limbs have a draw weight adjustment of SOMTHING LIKE 10LBS - 30LBS!!!

I bought my little girl (8) a Hoyt Trykon jr. So far no complaints... just make sure you know what eye is dominant. Don’t make the mistake I made and buy a right handed bow for a left eye dominant child!

JKF123 You can not go wrong with this little Bear Pioneer II. . If you are not in a hurry to get a bow I can see about bringing one to Fredericksburg. I will be in Fredericksburg at the end of July (around the 29th or 30th). We can meet at my deer lease and your child can test shoot it, if you would like? Just let me know. PM me with your answer, so I don't have to try to track down the thread.

Try whisper creek archery. My grandson is seven and he shoots one. Parallel limbs and fully adjustable.

Diamond Razor Edge is the best hands down. It will go from 30-60 lbs and 18" to 27" draw. It will last him many years. Here is Easton (8) shooting 21" draw and 40 #

Will. Clinton and I get along pretty well. Last year I bought his 250 acres that bordered my property. I bought my Bowtech from him also. I'm constantly pulling his goats and sheep out of the fences. Very nice guy once you get to his core.

I'll tell him you sent me. Maybe you can get a discounted hunt from him

Very nice. You've got quite a bowhunter on your hands. Is that a Sika or Fallow in the first pic? I can't see an adam's apple.
