    another box blind building question...

I'm fixing to build a box blind to gun hunt out of. Nothing special just a plain old 4'x4'. Enough room for 1 person. How tall would yall make it? I was thinking maybe 6ft. And how much slope should I have on the roof from front to back? Thanks for some suggestions.

Are you talking about the box height or off the ground. 6ft for either sounds good. As for slope, I normally just use 3" of slope from front to back.

gonna be kinda hard drawing a bow in that thing.
But i would put about 1-1/2 to 2" slope. Just enough to give the rain water a direction to go.
I also would build it tall enough to stand in.

8 ft. up is decent for most spots. What kind of roof are you using?

I was gonna put the floor 8ft off the ground. I was looking for how tall to make the actual blind. (box height) And it will be for gun hunting not bow.

            Taller than you are.
6' is ok as long as you don't stand 6'1" .

Leave enough room to stand & not hit the roof cross bracing.
You also want somewhere for the heat to build above your head (sun pinging on blind) . If the roof is too low the hot pocket of air will be sittin on your head.

The taller the roof, the less chance you will hit the roof with your rifle when picking it up to stick the barrel out the window.

The higher you build it off the ground, the harder it will be to put up & down when the time comes.

Back when I tried hunting out of a box blind my major complaint was that I could not stand up and stretch... and I'm only 5' 11" so if I was building one it would be at least 8' and that way it would be a full sheet...

And 1" in 24" is plenty of fall

Here's what we do. 2x6 floor base, nail a 4x4 piece of plywood even with the bottom of the 2x6, this puts your shooting window at 42". Leave 6 to 8 inches of window and nail a 2x4 piece of plywood above that, this will make you stand 6' to 6'2" on the high side. Use a 2" pitch on the roof. You will be able to stand and stretch your legs in that. Uses 3 sheets of plywood for the sides.

I've got a coworker that makes his 4x4x8 on the high side.

That is 4- 4x8 sheets. He leaves the sheets whole & cuts his windows where he wants them & then builds the frame inside.

Says they are plenty big to do a stretch inside. A stretch isn’t much of a stretch unless you can raise your hands up high .

A few inches taller than you are at minimum. You want to be able to stand and stretch when sitting for hours on end.

I made mine 7' tall with 3" slope front to back. My windows at at 38 inches. I don't know how you are going to build your windows but I made mine 12X24". Went to Home Depot and bought some plastic trim that had a 1/8" track and a 1/4" lip. I stapled this to some 1X2" boards and my windows slide up in the grove and stay put. I'll get some pictures for you if you would like to see how they work. Just pm me.
