The best timer I have is the Smart Timer by Kenco. I put a 6v battery in last fall and is still going strong. My brother bought this at Wal-Mart years ago when they carried them. He bought it on clearance sale for $25. I have looked on the web for another one and the cheapest I found was $39.99 and up to $59.99.
I also have a Moultrie that runs about $30 at Academy. It comes on right at daybreak and again right at dark. And I mean right at dark. This is the only thing I don't like about these. This one has gone thru 3 or 4 batteries since last Sept.
I also have a American Hunter I bought at GM for $29.99. These eat up batteries. These will also empty a feeder. When the battery gets weak or low, the motor will just "click", kicking the spinner plate about a 1/2 turn, until the battery is completly dead. By then, it will have done emptied your feeder.
I have also used Game Country timers with good results. They run 6 months or longer just on 4 D cell batteries. I bought these years ago on sale for about $25. I think now they are around $50 or $60 bucks.
One guy on our lease uses the Remington Digital. This thing will sling some corn on a new battery, but again, it seems to go thru a 6v battery pretty quick.
I also have a Wildgame Innovations I got thru Sportsman Guide for less than $30. The motor doesn't seem as strong as the Remington, but I like the times it goes off, about an hour or so after daylight and about an hour before dark.
So, out of all these, I would buy a couple more Smart Timers.

X2 on the Timer. However, you can buy them at multiple places. The feed store close to us sells them. These are great timers. Simple operation and durable.

Anything but American Hunter.
Seriously, for the money, I have had good luck with those 40 gallon Remingtons. Can buy them for less than $100 bucks, barrell and timer.
However, I have some of the older Kenco Lifetimers that I have been running for now 13 years and they are going strong. Never a performance issue and never any warranty issues.

I have had good luck with the cheap cabelas timer/spinner. $49.99
One piece of advice on this one would be to cut the wires going to the battery plate and wire the battery directly in upright position. Timer is made where the battery goes in upside down onto a plate, is a good idea if battery was upright. If water gets into the housing it can cause the unit to short out if it gets on that plate.

I have two of the On Time Solar Elites and they work great. I know you are asking about timers but had to throw these in. I had one get destroyed by cows and On Time fixed it no charge!! I told them cows did it but they fixed it at no charge. You can't get much better than that!!
Built in solor panel and they've worked for several years now. Set'em and forget'em...
