Here's a corner I'm taking about. This feeder only has 2 strands but will have another soon. Not many cows come by this stand as it's on a plateau surrounded by kinda deep wash-outs.
The second pic is the easiest wash-out to get to my stand/feeder. It was a ***** carring everything (feeder parts, stand, post, wire, corn, etc.) in there...

      1) Build the pen huge like in groundthreats pics. Deer don't like to jump into a small enclosure. Use trees and such as posts. The more the deer think they are crossing a fence to get food and the less they think they are entering a pen, the more comfortable they will be.

      2) Call a fence company and see if you can get ahold of some of the fencing they take down or find some rancher that is going to build a new fence and offer to take his old one down.

      3) If you decide to do your own barb, tractor supply is not that bad for price. Get a few spools. We just hand tighten them around T-posts, we don't go as far as a stretcher. If you put a bit of effort it will keep cows out.

As far as building one cheap, I pulled t-post by hand from an apartment complex that needed them removed from staking their trees. No cost but a lot of sweat in July...
I'll look for a good pic.
Thats exactly what I was thinking about doing with the T post for braces.

Square pen @ 32' x 32" using eight 16' x 36" hog panels, T-posts and bailing wire. Place small openings in hog panel closest to ground to prevent piglets from getting in to eat corn.
If you want some hog activity, move a feeder closer to edge of pen to scatter some of the corn outside of the pen.

Easiest setup I know of and doesn't require math, such as calculating a circle.

Raise your feeder tall enough so the cows can't reach it ours are about 7' to the bottom of the timer. Cows can't reach them. Pf course you will have to get a taller ladder or a blower.

I have never really understood why you need a feed pen unless your are trying to keep out the hogs or feeding using a tube feeder. We have hunted around cattle all of our lives and never had a problem with them messing with a our feeders. Sure they come by every now and again, but thats what sling shots are for. Make your feeders tall enough and a big enough foot print and the cows won't mess with them.

Yeah well they are barley tall enough, but our cows will start using the poles for scratching post, and knock them over. Thats the whole problem they keep knocking them over. I dont care if they get some corn, but they keep knocking the feeders over.

I built my corners like WCB was talking about I have not had any problems yet and all I want to keep out is cows. I used landscape timbers for the corner post, eaisier to pull against IMO. Exotics and whitetail slip right through.

I use 12 cattle panels and 24 t-posts and make them as close to a circle as possible. 12 cattle panels arranged in a circle will give you more internal surface area than 12 cattle panels arranged in a square. Also, no corners for dominant bucks to trap or "corner" submissive bucks in.

Maybe so, all though mannered may not be the correct word. A sling shot does have some sort of corrective action that they seem to remember.

These used to shake a sling shot off like biting flies..........
