    Ruger LCP

I bought an LCP the other day to carry when wearing dress slacks. I took it to the range today and was very disappointed. The trigger pull was long and given the size or the pistol, is very uncomfortable to shoot. The trigger pull was way too hard as well.

I know that this will not be important and possible unnoticeable if used for self defense but I would like it to be a little friendlier when practicing.

Has anyone else noticed this? Has anyone had a trigger job done on one? If so, could you recommend a good smith?

Kind of like the kel tec .380... bites your hand at the range, but if you want a very small close in handgun thats easy to conceal.. Thats what you give up.

It's not made to be a range gun. It's made to pull out of your pocket and stop a would be attacker at 10 yards or less.

My kel-tec P3-AT is basically the same gun. It's definately not a range gun, but I don't think it was intended to be. I shoot mine on occasion just to stay proficient, but most of the time it stays in the truck for it's intended use. I believe a trigger job would be a bad idea. The long hard trigger pull is it's safety feature. Unless you are going to have in a holster I wouldn't do it. IMO.

Most pistols with a long trigger pull and a ugly reset are not user friendly ....

it was designed along with most pistols in that size to perform for close encounters of 3-5 feet. Its a point and shoot weapon not designed to be aimed nor fired multiple times at the range.
There are several studies out on the distance of shots taken in a deadly force situation and the bulk majority are in the 3-5 foot range

Like this and everyone else said, these are "Oh crap!" pistols. If I guy is trying to kill you 5 feet away, you aren't going to notice the trigger pull or the reset.

The long and heavy trigger is for the very reason that the pistol is tiny. It is made to stuff into a back pocket or similar way of carrying. If there was a light and/or short trigger pull, a lot of people would be shooting themselves in the butt or in the thigh.

The LCP, Kel-Tec P3AT, Kahr PM9 and similar pistols are very limited in their practical use and made for one purpose. They usually have a very snappy recoil, they have long and fairly heavy trigger pulls and they are tiny. If you are trying to save your life, you will never notice it.

I've sold a half dozen or so and your correct about the trigger. I tell each customer to go to the range and shoot it it at 5 - 10 yards to get the feel of it. It's not a comfortable pistol to shoot as well. It's a "point and shoot" close range self defense firearm that hopefully you'll never need to use.

Yea, I guess if the need ever arises (which I hope it doesn't), my adrenaline will keep me from noticing the trigger pull.

On the up side, my self defense ammo fed flawlessly!

                  Thanks for the input.

What self defense ammo are you using? Need to find some to try in mine.

I went with the Hornady Critical Defense for this one.

There, fixed it for ya. If I have 10 yards, the 45 is coming out.
