iphone 3.0 update release today

anyone else super excited about this update? i stayed up late hoping it would release at 12am pacific, but looks like its gonna be later today. i plan to re jailbreak mine right after the update as well to keep my tethering.

Been reading some stuff on the internet and it looks like the one thing I was most looking forward to wont be avalible yet!
MMS messaging, wont be active until the end of the summer

There is a tethering option coming out with this update that will allow you to use your phone as a modem. But it too wont be avalible until later (and may or may not have a cost involved from AT&T)

I'm ready! Mainly for the copy/paste and picture messaging. I'll just be glad I won't have to put in a username and password (5 to 10 time before I get it right) to see a stupid picture.

Amen Brother!!!...by far the most annoying 'feature' on the iPhone...prior to my iPhone I had a 1st generation Samsung Blackjack and even it had true MMS capability!

I too am stoked about the update. I don't think there will be a jailbreak for the 3.0 for a few weeks. If you try to re-jailbreak it now it will reload 2.2.1. If you gotta have the tethering it might be beneficial to you to wait until the Dev Team releases the 3.0 jailbreak software.

I just tryed to update my phone by syncing it. It is not available yet it is still version2.2.1. so maybe it will be available later today

iPhone Hacks story basically says that after the 3.0 is released that it will release the jailbreak for it. Sorry Wes, I had not read up in a few days.

Ryan, basically right now Apple has the market cornered by requiring you use iTunes and only download the products they let you. Well, some folks that are a lot smarter than me thought that it was pretty crazy that Apple was allowed to hold the monopoly on the market. If you jailbreak your phone you can download applications through Cydia or Installer (a few others as well) with out going through the App Store or Apple. Up until the 3.0, jailbreaking was the only way to send MMS, tether, copy/paste, video or a ton of other stuff.
