    OT- Dodge lamp replacement?

OK, I give up. I need to replace the bulb in the overhead console on my 01 RAM and I can find a slot, screw, or a place to stick a screwdriver and pry to get the clear plastic cover/ switch off. What's the 'secret'? I also get to show-off my pintail feathers and mallard curl decorations, plus the cross my daughter got me for Christmas as a decoration for the tree, but I wanted to look at it all year around instead.

Bill....not a Dodge owner but in my Ford I have to pull down on the overhead console popping it off to be able to get to work with the electronics. I have to pull down on each corner......

Almost 175k miles on the Dodge and other than tune-ups, brakes, shocks and tires, I've replaced the water pump and front wheel bearing hubs (1 was starting to wear out), and did the U joints on the front axles while I had them out (1 was starting to clunk). Otherwise, an extremely dependable truck.

There's a couple of clips in the front compartment closest to the windshield, but when I put them the unit does not release from the ceiling. Somebody will know, before I break it.

How'd it break? After 170+k and 7 years, my wife started pushing it the other day. I just finished replacing the switch in our bathroom on Sunday, I've never met anybody else who can do what she does to electronics.

The dash is an easy do it youself project. dealer was going to charge me about 800 to do that for me. I ask he thought i could do it myself, he said don't try it. Well i just had to try. 2 hours later and with the use of a nut driver and a screw driver I had it done.

Sawzall thru the roof?JK Maybe try calling the dealer sometimes they can tell you how to change it. Everything is made so you have to bring it in nowadays though.

Looking at the lights the inner side you will see 2 tabs one on each side of the lense near the center you need a small screwdriver(common, flat blade) and lightly pry down and it will come loose in one corner and then just slip it out. Once the cover is off just pull the bulb out and replace it.

It has 2 small tabs near the sides of the lense got to be carefull tho. Plastic is plastic

Thanks, I'll get outside and try it.

I have not had the truck in a Dodge dealer since I had a hydraulic lifter replaced under the warranty in 2002. It started tap-tap-tapping but I did not get it done since they scheduled it weeks out, then drove 900 miles each way to/from elk hunting in Oregon with no damage done.

Done. The clear switch has a little peg on the outside, which I snapped out. Bulb was OK, but loose. All fixed, thanks to TBH, again.
