Why do hogs disapear when deer season opens

I have a ranch in Centerville Texas...Have owned it for 15 years. We are covered up with hogs...love that cuz we bow hunt them and are extremly sucessful at it...My question is why do they disapear and where do they go...surrounded by big ranches and I no they are NOT just going NOCTURNAL
It happens every year...they return in feb - march and we see them every weekend from then till second week of bow season...just wondering!

I know most will disagree with me but I think hogs are smarter than deer. They feel the pressure and move to unhunted areas. I think it might be because they are pack animals and when the older smarter hogs go the rest follow. Like the big deer do when they feel the pressure. Just my opinion.

It could be that the ranches close to you cut off the feed once deer season is over and the pigs go looking for food and find it a your place. I know this is the case on the ranch I hunt.

I couldnt agree more. Hogs a alot smarter than deer and when things change they do . Pigs learn by mistakes and by others mistakes. Things like more trucks coming in noise at feeders 4 wheelers talking so on. They may be going to another food source or maybe better water source but I would say the big ones will always be close. They didnt get big being stupid. I have sat at traps where Moma or grandma or aunty has scolded the little ones for going near the trap deep grunts and such. They communicate in a unique language and A smart hog can make the others or young smarter

I'm with ya Tim. Hogs are extremely smart animals and I always target the largest most mature ones in the pack first as to keep the little, uneducated ones coming to the feed. Now if I can just get my partners on the plan instead of shooting the first one that walks out........

Agree with this one, it is what happens on our place, they would come every night regardless if an AR went off.

Yup, what Tim and JSAPP said. Same thing at out ranch, as soon as trucks start moving around more than normal, shots are fired, sharp sticks flung at them, they'll move to another pasture with less pressure.

I don't know, but if it really works, I'm all for opening deer season up year-round.

LOL @ Tim Hicks, the hog whisperer.

                      Love it!

Man I have killed alot of big pigs by spot and stalking. Never have I been able to stalk with in bow range of a mature buck.

I think as said above as more people hit the woods the hogs go into hiding....Smart Animals.....

I believe that to be fact also. Been busted by hogs in a stand and had deer walk right in after too.

Just like the deer reappear after the season closes.

Think its seasonal food source thing.
