    ? on tipping guides/host

If you have folks come out to hunt and you do not sit with them in the blind or anything, Just drop them off and pick them up from blind/stand locations. The hunters take care of their own cooking and food. What would you expect to receive in tip money? Obviously before the hunters come you would have had to spend a little time scouting out the blind locations so that you could put them in the best blind available. Whats yalls input?

It wouldn't be much unless they helped skin/clean animals and make sure I was in the best spot possible.

      I would say....................ask Brezina!!

But seriously, whatever you feel comfortable with percentage wise based on the cost of your hunt.

I have gotten $50 before - which is about what I expected on the top end
and I have gotten $300 before - which made me wonder if the guy just had more money than scence.

          Codie,
I have been guiding hunters (during hunting season only) for the past 18 years. It would be my opinion that on a weekend hunt that if all that person did on is drop you off and pick you up he is not a guide but probably more of a ranch hand. His placement of you may verywell be based on where he has been seeing animals while feeding etc. If this person helped me bloodtrail a wounded animal, clean and skin etc. Then I would base my gratuity on about 50.00 a day. If that person went above and beyond to get you your animal 100.00 per day. I am a 1on1 guide 99% of the time and we hunt and hunt hard with that comes great rewards (sometimes). I have been stiffed by some very wealthy people after busting my arse aswell. I once bloodtrailed and tracked a poorly rifle shot deer 4.6 miles. This was in south Texas, took all night and 4 sets of flashlight batteries. I finally walked up on the deer and put him down with a pistol. Nd all for a 100.00 tip for three days. By the way the deer was a 22in. 10pt. that scored 176 & 3/8 and was free to the oil co. owner. I felt so bad for the other guide that helped me that I gave him the tip and a 100 out of my own pocket so only one of us could claim screwed. Carry enough money for above and beyond and then some and base it all on your experience. See ya thursday eve!!!!

I have always started with a 10% of the hunt cost and service dictated more or less. So, if the hunt cost is $500.00 for 2 1/2 days. $50.00 bucks would be the starting point. If the guide/ranch hand knows the animals, gives good information on stand locations, animal patterns and tracking it goes up. I have paid a flat rate ($20 - $50) for skinning most of the time and do not consider that in the tip. Skinning rates are sometimes dictated, sometimes not. If I were guiding/ranch hand, the skinning rate would be stated prior to hunting. That is the basics that I use.

LMAO!!......Diet Coke out the nose funny Jeff ....

Codie...I tipped nothing on a paid hog hunt similar because the landowner was "the guy" and he merely gave us directions, a combo and said have at it....here are the blinds. We were successful but I feel his money was in our original fees.

That being said, if I knew a guy worked his tail off to put me in a blind that allowed me a better chance at killin' out ...especially on an antlered animal, I would tip in the 10-20% range. I would take into consideration scouting, cleaning, blind placement, working on another location if #1 didn't pan out etc.

And some may not agree with this, but I would tip more based on the size of the animal. When I get really happy, I tip better....my sailfish and magnum Mahi Mahi are prime examples. I couldn't tell you what I'd do if I arrowed a magnum axis or whitetail on a guided hunt......
