Best herbicide to kill underbrush/weeds without hurting post oak trees

I need to kill out the under brush and weeds around my house, but I don't want to spray anything that could get into the roots of the post oak trees and kill them. There's coastal bermuda spreading into this area, which is fine. I also put out some native grass seed a couple weeks ago. That's starting to sprout. I just need to get rid of the broadleaf stuff. What should I use? Is 2,4-D strong enough? A buddy of mine sprayed brush killer of some sort under some trees, and he killed all his big trees. I don't want to do that.

Same here. Never had issues with hurt trees.

            Thanks for the help, guys.

I talked to my buddy that killed his trees. He sprayed a ground killer on the area around his trees to keep weeds from coming up through crushed granite covered beds. It killed everything, just like it’s supposed to.

I want to double and triple check to make sure I don’t screw up like that too. [emoji3]

Butyrac 200 (2-4 Db) will kill broadleaf weeds and not harm grass or trees. I’ve used it in my clover plots for years.

Paraquat or Roundup. You DON NOT want to use any herbicide with a soil residual. I would not use Grazon under you trees.

I don’t want to kill the grass either, so those are probably not good for what I am trying to do.

I'm not aware of a herbicide that is broad leaf that will not damage an oak tree. may be out there, but I would double and triple check before using. I would spot treat with roundup, and use a pre emergent next year.

GrazonNext can and will kill oaks. Been there done that.

24d amine. Cheap and works good. Wont hurt those mature trees. Although not recommended to spray on newly sprouted grass. Needs to be established for a year. Although I've done a newly seeded field at 12oz to the acre and didn't hurt anything.

Preemergent is definitely in my plans for next year. I was hoping to find something I could spray over the top of everything with my tractor, but spot spraying everything to avoid the trees is probably the safest bet. Maybe skip under the drip lines of the trees and just hoe all of that. It's a lot to do by hand. Around 5 acres. It's only sweat though, right?
