Wife and I just got back from a little anniversary get away to a place north of Terlingua about 12 miles north and east off Hwy 170. The Summit at Big Bend. Domes, Star gazing Domes, 2 houses and 2 living quarters located in CAVES! The domes are very spacious.
We stayed in one of the regular domes and it is really WAY more than we expected. King size bed with 4 huge pillows, nice couch that is a fold out queen size bed, mini split AC/heater that will keep these domes COOL! Mini fridge and sink in the room. You do not have to talk to anyone to check in or out, which is nice. There is a fire pit, but buy wood or bring your own. Showers and toilets are located near to the domes, I think 3 or 4 of these for 20 domes. Ours were about a 50 yard walk to them.
Only thing I found on the negative side was,
NO guns on premises, if not seen, no problem was my thought.
The binder that you should read when you get there said "lean back have a cold beverage in the fridge and relax." Problem was, it was Bud Light in the fridge so we sat it out and let it get hot then put it back in the fridge when we left.
It is off Hwy 170 along a caliche road and it is not smooth, no speeding for sure.
this place is over 1000 acres and has a Summit you can drive to for the evening sunset. I would suggest a short wheelbase vehicle for driving around as my F350 C/C long bed does not the tight turns anywhere in that country!
It is about 30 miles from the Big Bend entrance and only about 7 miles from Big Bend Park Ranch Hdqrs!
Neat place to visit and we will go back when we are in better shape to do some hikes and would look at staying here again.
